About us
Since 2007, the Diario Noticias de la Costa Foundation, the most important newspaper in the area, organizes the southernmost open water swimming competition in the world  La Patagones Viedma, which takes place on the Negro River, opposite the cities of Viedma and Carmen de Patagones, in the Patagonia region.

La Patagones Viedma, throughout its three editions, has summoned over 100 swimmers representing 15 countries. Since 2008 it is part of the FINA Grand Prix annual calendar, thus helping to revive a local open water swimming tradition that had been abandoned for many years.

With this aim, Diario Noticias Foundation organizes a festival that includes a wide range of sports, entertainments and cultural activities such as: triathlons – Short and Olympic-, an Iron Kid, kayak competitions, open water races for amateurs and elite levels, like The Crossing of the River, The Bridge to Bridge race, and the main attraction, the FINA 10 km Marathon Swimming World Cup “La Patagones Viedma”, whose Director is former World Champion, Claudio Plit.

After the introduction of the 10km swimming marathon races at the 2008 Olympic Games, Diario Noticias Foundation decided to host a stage of the 10 km World Cup, thus supporting future growth of open water swimming.

Diario Noticias Foundation´s capacity for organizing these events has been acknowledged by FINA, and has now been entrusted to host the second stage of the FINA 10 km Marathon Swimming World Cup 2010 in the cities of Viedma and Carmen de Patagones.

“La Patagones-Viedma” is the only Olympic-Distance open water race held in Argentina, and it is the second in Latin America, after Santos, Brazil.
